These home altar statues are a fine example of tribal art from the villages of the state of Gujarat (Western India). They have been used in home altars for decades. Craftsmen made the figurines on behalf of the villagers from carefully selected wood: wood from trees to which a lot of strength is attributed. The figurines represent local deities to whom villagers could turn with all their problems and wishes.
The figurines are approximately between 17 and 20 cm high.
