Lingam Svayambhu | Stone

Fertility plays a major role in all religions. This is also the case in Hinduism, where this role is assigned to the deity Shiva. Shiva is worshiped in all kinds of forms, including natural forms. One of these shapes is the 'lingam svayambhu': egg-shaped stones that are found in sacred rivers, such as the Ganges and the Narmada. They represent the creative power of Shiva. Many temples dedicated to Shiva contain a lingam on which worshipers offer water, milk, honey and flowers.
